You may have heard about Kentucky’s new law making available, and in some cases requiring, an ignition interlock device (“IID”) to be placed on your car if you have been charged with or convicted of DUI. Having an IID installed makes you eligible to obtain an ignition interlock license (“IIL”), which then allows you to continue driving to work, school, doctor visits and other important appointments while your case is pending and even once it is over, if necessary.

The process of obtaining an IID and IIL can be complicated. You will need to provide a copy of your registration, proof of current insurance, and other documents to the court. You will then need to visit at least two different locations after you leave the courthouse in order to complete the process. However, simply submitting an application to the court for an IID/IIL is no guarantee that it will be granted. Judges may exercise their discretion when deciding whether or not to approve your request. Let me help you stay legal and on the road.
