Drug Crimes

Although the United States accounts for only 1/10 of the world’s population, we lay claim to 25% of the world’s incarcerated population — more than Russia, Mexico and India combined. Why such the disparity? The answer lies in our Draconian drug laws, which have imprisoned hundreds of thousands of our own citizens.

Our harsh laws not only punish the user, but their families as well, while doing little to actually curb the availability of drugs. Until we recognize the situation for the public health issue it is and stop trying to incarcerate our way out of this problem, the number of those we put behind bars for having a disease will only continue to grow.

Possession, trafficking, or intent to distribute?

Drug possession allegations that include an intent to sell or distribute, also known as trafficking, are quite serious. Felony drug possession charges can result in state prison time, hefty fines, and a lifetime of problems.

Frequently, those charged with trafficking are simply trying to support a habit. Even if your charges involve only a small amount of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, meth, or prescription drugs, the consequences can be huge. Possession carries up to 5 years, and trafficking 10.

What are my options?

There are many opportunities for an experienced drug defense attorney to impact your case. Evidence is often obtained unconstitutionally, and a well-timed motion could resolve your case favorably. Drug court, probation and diversion are also options. In even the toughest cases I’ll work to reduce the charge or mitigate any possible sentence.

I am prepared to take whatever steps are necessary to help you emerge from your drug-related charges in the strongest possible position to move on with your life. To discuss your case confidentially, please contact me at my office in Louisville at 502-371-7000 or contact me by e-mail.

DUI Case

A Grateful Client

“Joe Suhre is the best attorney you will find to represent you. Along with having a stellar reputation in the legal community, I can also speak from personal experience that Joe is a highly skilled litigator and secured me Not-Guilty decisions on 2 separate DUI charges! Unfortunately, I was pulled over pending my first DUI charge, and charged with a second DUI. Joe navigated every legal issue involved and coached me through the process so that I could monitor the situation as it unfolded.”
