A Kentucky native, Derrick Harris uses his many life experiences to help him relate to people from any walk of life. He knew at a young age that he wanted to enter the legal field. In the fourth grade, he participated in and won a mock jury trial at an old courthouse in downtown Lexington. You could say from there onward he was on the pursuit of justice. Derrick attended undergrad at University of Kentucky and law school at Appalachian School of Law in Virginia. During his first year of law school, he was a law clerk for the Commonwealth Attorney in Cynthiana.
Derrick went on to represent clients at The Justice Law Office in Virginia and the Southwest Virginia Legal Aid Society. Prior to joining the Suhre team, he represented clients in felony cases including those facing the death penalty. In fact, he’s served his clients in over 700 felony cases.
“Success at the end of the day is knowing that I gave my work everything I had,” says Harris. He strives to give each and every single one of his clients high-level representation. “If I can help just one person feel relief from the difficulty they are facing then all my work for the day was worth it.” Compassion, authenticity, loyalty is some of the values that drive Derrick. He is an attorney with purpose and ready to serve his community.
When he’s not lawyering in Lexington and the surrounding areas, he is probably out fishing, hunting or golfing – depending on the season. If he’s not outside, he’s hanging out with his wife, Heather, and two cats, Dixie and Pearl.
